Our Approach to Piano Lessons
Piano lessons at Innovation Music Studio in Monrovia, CA are comprehensive, creative, and tailored to each student’s personality, interests, and goals. We work with children, teens, and adults, from complete beginners to experienced musicians.
We take a 21st-century approach to music education. Students explore a wide range of repertoire—from pop and rock to jazz, classical, indie, and musical theatre—while developing essential skills such as reading lead sheets, feeling rhythm, understanding music theory, and hearing musical structure. Creativity and expression are central to our lessons, with students encouraged from the beginning to explore, play, improvise, and create.
Our lessons are also enriched with historical, social, and cultural context. Through our monthly Musician Spotlight Series, students learn about influential artists, styles, and traditions and develop a deeper understanding of where music comes from and what it represents. What Makes Our Piano Lessons Different?
At Innovation Music Studio, piano study goes beyond learning notes and repertoire. Students have opportunities to develop their own musical voice through improvisation, songwriting, creative projects, and collaborative experiences. Rather than simply preparing for recitals, they learn to use their skills in ways that feel meaningful and connected to their interests.
Piano study doesn’t have to be solitary. Students participate in experiences beyond the traditional private lesson, including our Group Performance Lab, workshops, and live performances. Our bi-annual concerts featuring live bands give students opportunities to perform with other musicians, build real-world musicianship, and grow confidence in a supportive setting.
We also emphasize community and connection. As a boutique music studio, we build meaningful, long-term relationships with our students and families while creating an environment where students feel supported and inspired. Who Are Our Piano Lessons For?
At Innovation Music Studio, we offer piano lessons for students of all ages and experience levels. We work with children, pre-teens, teens, adults, and seniors, from complete beginners to advanced musicians. Students can explore pop, jazz, contemporary, classical, and other styles based on their interests.
Kids Piano Lessons (Ages 6-9)
We work with young beginners starting at age 6. Lessons focus on music fundamentals, basic technique, rhythm, simple reading, improvisation, and foundational chord patterns, all presented in a fun and supportive way.
Pre-Teen & Teen Piano Lessons (Ages 10-18)
Piano lessons for pre-teens and teens build strong musical foundations while encouraging creativity and independence. Students develop technique, rhythm, reading, ear training, and improvisation while learning music that reflects their interests.
Adult Piano Lessons (18+)
Adult piano lessons are ideal for beginners, returning players, and experienced musicians. Instruction emphasizes practical skills such as chord lead sheets, ear training, improvisation, basic composition, and technique, often centered around popular repertoire. We proudly work with older adult students and seniors who are continuing their musical journey or starting for the first time. Lessons are supportive and goal-oriented. It truly is never too late to learn and enjoy making music.
Piano Lesson Options
We offer flexible piano lesson options and formats to fit different ages, schedules, and musical goals. Students can choose a recurring weekly lesson or other lesson options based on their needs.
Lessons are typically 40 or 55 minutes. Shorter sessions are ideal for younger beginners or busy pre-teens, while longer lessons work well for teens and adults who benefit from deeper focus and detail.
